On July 20-23, 2000, the Winged Warriors/NBOA gathered in Boone, IA to celebrate their 25th Anniversary. The new AmeriHost Inn served as our headquarters. Some of the activities the members enjoyed were a road rally, trip to the Kate Shelley High Bridge - the world's highest double track railroad trestle, a cruise-in at the local Godfather's Pizza (lucky for us the bowties that usually dominate the place were at an event in South Dakota so we had the place to ourselves), tours of Kiefer Trailer, Swan Creek Cabinet and Patterson Dental warehouse, a cruise-in to Ruttles 50's joint in Ames, IA, technical seminars and a ride on the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad.

On Saturday, we held an all day car show and picnic at Big Creek Marina near Polk City, IA. During the trip to Big Creek, the members stopped on the mile long bridge for a photo opportunity. There's no better sight than a mile of brightly colored Mopars! Spectators came to Big Creek from all parts of the Midwest to see the cars. One couple, who called earlier in the week to ask where the cars would be, drove all the way from Fargo, ND just to see them! That evening, the members did a parade lap in their cars at the Boone Speedway (a 71 second video is available - an 11 MB 352x240 pixel or a 4.5 MB 176x112 pixel) and then settled in to watch IMCA races. Sunday morning, the members were treated to a breakfast buffet, compliments of the club, to commemorate their 25th year together.

We were honored to have racing legend Ray Nichels join us for part of the weekend. Ray gave everyone a large photo of the famous #99 Nichels Daytona that Charlie Glotzbach drove, and shared some great racing stories with us.

Congratulations goes to Stuart Sutton of Overland Park, KS for being selected to win the prestigious Best Mopar award sponsored by the Mopar Muscle Association of Great Britain. Stuart's spectacular orange 1969 Road Runner was selected to win the sterling silver tankard from a field of incredibly nice Mopars because it was resurrected from such a poor state. When Stuart first acquired the Runner, it was rotted beyond the frame! It has been lovingly restored to a better condition than when it left the factory. It is interesting to note that Stuart drives the Road Runner to all events....this is no trailer queen!

No one thought to get an official count of the cars present at the meet, though at one point in time, we accounted for eighteen SuperBirds, five Daytonas, fifteen Chargers, Road Runners, Coronets and GTXs, two New Yorkers and two Cudas!

We would like to thank all of the sponsors of our event: Brian and Carol at Earl May, Magnum Muffler, Jockos Auto Parts, Arnold Motor Supply, Hy Vee, Coker Tire, O'Reilly's Auto Parts, Rex at Pat Clemons Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth parts department, Dairy Queen, Country Kitchen, Culligan Soft Water, Pepsi Company, Sioux Bee Honey, JollyTime Popcorn, Nagle Publishing, Harry Rupe at the UP Railroad and Greg at Carlson's Soft Water.

The Winged Warriors/NBOA will be holding a spring meet on March 16-18, 2001 in conjunction with the March 18th Winston Cup race at Darlington, SC. This meet will include a visit to the NASCAR Cafe, go-cart racing, several tours and a car show and parade lap at the Sunday race. The members will be staying in Aynor, SC.

The Winged Warriors/NBOA 2001 National Meet will be held in Topeka, KS on July 19-22. If you own a 1969 Charger 500, Daytona, 1970 SuperBird or any 1962-74 B-Body and would be interested in membership and joining us for these events, contact club headquarters for more information: 216-12th Street, Boone, IA 50036-2019 or E-mail to: hemi@willinet.net.
